Fall is officially here – though it’s 85 and sunny in the middle of October here in central Illinois (le yikes!). Regardless, I am in hardcore decorating mode (see, e.g., a recent birthday party for a naughty dachshund), elevating my paltry, generic fall decorations (a few leaves here, a miniature pumpkin or apple-cider candle there) to the level of Maximum Halloween Extravaganza.
I love to decorate (and organize!) my house, and fall is when I feel most excited, hopeful, and nostalgic. Making our home cozy and inviting, especially during the colder months of the year and especially especially during the pandemic, makes the world seem a little less like a living nightmare.
Many of my decorations are from Maman or my late grand-mère, and I love enjoying them year after year. Since Ma Famille and I are settling in to a new house (again – le sigh), I get the pleasure of sorting out my Halloween Vision for our new space!
This classic plywood ghost, a family heirloom dating circa 1992, is always front and center.
A new Snoopy decoration for an unsuspecting pumpkin. Way easier than carving.
The Halloween-y tablescape for our new kitchen table. A high-low amalgam: Placemats from IKEA, runner from Wal-Mart, napkin rings from Crate & Barrel, coasters and candle stand from MacKenzie-Childs.
Sparkly pumpkins and gourds and an felt leaf runner liven up the sideboard in the dining room.
Orange lights and a fun banner adorn the fireplace in the family room, with more vintage Peanuts décor, of course.

Yes, Halloween can even happen in the powder room!
