Bonjour!
I’ve spent some time lately pondering my personal mission statement and the meaning of authenticity. I much prefer life when it feels natural, not forced; when it feels serendipitous, not overengineered.
Embracing authenticity helps me remember to follow my heart, march to the beat of my own drummer, and any other number of appropriate clichés. After all, we can only plan our lives so much. The microwave still dies. Then the refrigerator. The baby still gets an ear infection. All on your spouse’s birthday. Not that I speak from recent experience.
Today’s post shares tips for authentic living. Upcoming posts will explore embracing joy and sustainability.

🌸 What Is Authentic Living?
Authentic living is all about honoring yourself and who you are, what you want and need, and what makes you happy. Whether you call it listening to you heart, going with your gut, living your truth, or what have you, authenticity depends first and foremost on one thing: being honest with yourself.
Being honest with yourself is no easy task. Following the crowd or being complacent and living on autopilot are much easier ways to live.
But I would rather sacrifice fitting in with being true to myself and goals. I try to be honest with myself about my fortés and my limitations and to choose relationships and activities based on what suits my personality.

📚 Tips for Authentic Living
Strive for the candid, not the staged or rehearsed.
Embrace and showcase the whimsical, unique, and quirky parts of your personality.
Think for yourself.
Trust your gut, no matter how small the decision or commitment, to make the live you want.
Be open minded about trying new things and meeting new people, and know what does not serve you.
📿 How I Incorporate Authenticity in My Life
I wear vintage and/or family jewelry as part of my daily ensembles and decorate the house with old or meaningful pieces of furniture or décor.
I take candid photographs of my family.
I trust my gut to inform my decisions, whether I’m choosing whether to work, advocating for my health, or parenting my fur baby and human puppy.
Remember, this is just one person’s opinion! In short, authenticity means shedding pretense – being unique is way better than being the same as everyone else.

This is so good, Katie! I too embrace and strive for candid authenticity. It’s the truest way to live, especially and maybe more so now that the world is so curated with “shoulds” and staged photos and videos. I think we are all striving to see it and be it. It took me a long time to know what that even was for me so kudos to you for knowing it and claiming it so early! Have a wonderful day~ Laura

Thank you for reading, Laura! I agree with you about the pressure of “should” in society. It’s hard to unlearn!
