Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.”

― Henry David Thoreau

Bonjour et bienvenue!

The Thoreau quote sums up my personal philosophy: To pursue my dreams and live a life with as few regrets as possible.

Living the life I imagined is a work in progress. Following my dreams led me from a childhood in Alabama to living and working in New York City, Chicago, Milwaukee, and now Vermont – where I teach at the University of Illinois School of Information Sciences. I have practiced law, volunteered in libraries, lectured and researched at universities, worked in a florist, and taught yoga. Through it all, I’ve tried to find pleasure in the simple things that can make daily life so special.

I love cooking, traveling, and spending family time with L’Husband and Le Chien, a mischievous miniature dachshund named Charlie Brown. My passion for writing and French language and culture inspired me to start my own blog. Joie de Vivre shares my passion for food, travel, and joyful everyday living. Joyful living is an attitude, a philosophy, a lifestyle, and, ultimately, a choice.

Like living the life I imagined, joyful living is a process. And part of my process is making lists and rearranging closets!
