File under: We need a little Christmas now
Bonjour!
I am so ready for the holidays. After a long few pandemic-y years, it’s time wear cozy socks, drink hot chocolate, listen to holiday music, and channel a general holly-jolly vibe. It’s time to try to relax, unwind, and let go of some lingering anxieties and frustrations. It’s time to bake and sing and nap.

🎄 The Tree Goes Up on November 1
I don’t know about you, but I put up my Christmas tree the day after Halloween. (It’s a holiday season, people!) There may been a little holiday overlap… pumpkins on the front stoop, Thanksgiving flag in the flowerbed, Christmas tree in the window. Judge not.
From our front bay window, out of the reach of curious little toddler fingers, the tree twinkles with white lights and displays the dachshund ornaments we’ve collected over the last six years of dog parenthood. It makes me smile every time I walk by, and I get to enjoy it for weeks and weeks!

I did not realize it at the time, but putting up the Christmas tree symbolized what has become The Twelve Days of Katiemas, wherein I spend time reveling in holiday activities like decorating, baking, watching favorite Christmas movies, and generally relaxing after a fun, busy, long, challenging year. I need to rekindle my joy and nurture my inner child. Self-care and simple pleasures!

🍪 On the First Day of Katiemas
The event isn’t really only twelve days long (see “it’s a holiday season,” above), but “The Twelve Days of Katiemas” has a certain ring to it, so here we are. Recent holiday activities – usually while Le Bébé is napping – included:
Watching A Child’s Christmas in Wales (1987) (for a punch right in the childhood) with a mug of hot chocolate and a snoozly pooch.
Baking mini gingerbread loaves.
Writing and sending Christmas cards.

But I’m only getting started. There is more of the Twelve Days of Katiemas to come. Stay tuned for posts about:
- Eating a bag of marshmallows;
- Getting a Taylor Swift Christmas sugar cookie;
- Putting out Snoopy decorations for home and nursery;
- Entering my Auntie Mame era;
- And more!
What activities or memories get you in the holiday spirit?

À votre santé,
Katie

It looks lovely Katie, and your house looks really warm and cosy with this holiday spirit.
As a matter of fact I’ve just set up our Christmas tree and we did all the decorations for Christmas. I’ve never been this early! Somehow I just felt like getting the house ready for Christmas.
Oh and thank you for the lovely Christmas card, mine is on it’s way!
