Campfire Beach Picnic on South Hero, Vermont

Bonjour!

It’s starting to feel like spring in Vermont, and I’m eagerly anticipating warmer weather, more sunshine, and a visit to le lac (and my COVID-19 vaccine). Today’s post shares some pictures from a campfire picnic on the shores of Lake Champlain in South Hero, Vermont, a fun way to get outside with family and stay safely distanced during the pandemic summer of 2020.

South Hero is a special spot for ma famille. My paternal great-grandfather, Orlo, bought a piece of lakefront property to run as a boys’ summer camp in 1929. I spent childhood summers, like my father and his father before him, exploring the property, from the rocky beach to the raspberry bushes by the woods.

The crunchy sound of the gravel drive as we approach the camp, the musty smell of the “white house,” the old home on the property, and the view of the lake are deeply nostalgic for me. I am grateful I can now share this experience with Mon Chéri and Le Chien, who loves all the new sniffs.

And, of course, the s’mores – made with Vermont’s own Lake Champlain Chocolate, bien sûr!

What activities are you excited about for this spring and summer?

Merci for reading and please subscribe and share!

À votre santé,

Katie
