Bonjour!
Last year, during the throes of another COVID winter and pregnancy, L’Husband and I celebrated Valentine’s Day at home with romantic homemade mini pizzas followed by chocolate fondue for dessert. Today’s post shares some photos of our meal and ideas for your very own fête à la pizza.
We all know chocolate is traditional Valentine’s Day fare and can be quite romantique, but did you know pizza can be as well? Oui, c’est vrai! Pizza can also be very romantique if you want it to be (le wink).

Another great dessert idea – for anytime, not just Valentine’s Day, franchement – is berry-Greek yogurt parfait. As we learn from poet-philosopher Donkey in the now-classic film Shrek (2001):
“You know what ELSE everybody likes? Parfaits! Have you ever met a person, you say, ‘Let’s get some parfait,’ and they say, ‘Hell no, I don’t like no parfait.’? Parfaits are delicious!”
Sidebar: Yes, we enjoyed this romantic pizza-and-chocolate-fondue combination chez nous a year ago, and it’s taken me this long to write about it. From prepping for a tiny human to actually giving birth to and taking care of one, somehow this post – délicieux though she may be – got away from me. C’est la vie!
Ideas for Fun Mini Pizzas

For our mini pizzas, we used homemade red sauce (sans garlic and onion for those of us with IBS who follow a FODMAP diet). We then added the following toppings.
Hawaiian Pizza
- Base: Homemade red sauce.
- Toppings: Chopped ham, cubed pineapple, shredded mozzarella.
- Garnish: Chopped fresh parsley.
Margherita-ish Pizza
Note: Traditional margherita pizza calls for buffalo mozzarella and basil. We used what we had on hand. Needs must.
- Base: Homemade red sauce.
- Toppings: Shredded four-cheese Italian blend, dried Italian herb blend.
Sexy Bacon, Fig, and Goat Cheese Pizza
Now that I have your attention…
- Base: Fig jam! (le twist!).
- Toppings: Chopped cooked bacon, goat cheese crumbles.
- Garnish: Chopped fresh parsley.
What will you do for fun – alone, with friends or family, with a partner – on Valentine’s Day?
