How to Make Natural Air Freshener with Essential Oils

Bonjour!

Part of my commitment to joyful living and an organic and eco-friendly lifestyle includes using household products sans synthetic fragrances, such as laundry detergent or bath soap. Today’s post shares how make your very own all-natural air freshener with essential oils.

Making your own room spray is eco-friendly and better for the air quality in your home or office. Reusable glass bottles keep trash out of the landfill. Since you only use drops at a time to make air freshener, a bottle of your favorite essential oil lasts seemingly forever. And natural ingredients are better for air quality and overall wellness, and could help those with skin sensitivities or breathing issues.

I stash bottles of my homemade aire freshener in bathrooms, the bébé’s nursery, closets, and other possibly stinky places (le wink).

Supplies for Making Your Own Air Freshener

Making your own air freshener with essential oils couldn’t be easier! You just need a few supplies, listed below.

  • Glass bottle with spray top (I have two sizes: large spray bottle and small atomizer bottle)
  • Purified or distilled water
  • Essential oil or oils of your choice

Steps for Making Your Own Air Freshener

To make your own room spray:

  • Fill your chosen bottle with distilled or purified water.
  • Add drops of chosen essential oil or oils to the water (15-30 drops depending on desired strength). Feel free to mix scents into a custom blend!
  • Replace bottle cap and shake to combine.

Knowing my penchant for aromatherapy, L’Husband gifted me a set of essential oils and glass bottles from Grove Collaborative during my pregnancy. (He just gets me, you know?)

We’re both trying to use more natural and organic products in the home and support mission-driven companies with a demonstrable commitment to caring about wellness and the environment. Learn more about B Corps here.

Choosing the Right Scent

I go for scents that are soothing or refreshing. My essential oil set includes the following:

  • Lavender
  • Lemon
  • Orange
  • Tea tree
  • Eucalyptus

I mix match and blend jnto a pleasing mélange. Et voilà, homemade air freshener that’s eco-friendly – and better for you too!

What other eco-friendly supplies can you make for the home or office?

Merci for reading and please subscribe and share!

À votre santé,

Katie
